If the thought of \u2018Equities\u2019 and \u2018Investment ISAs\u2019 makes your heart race, you\u2019re not alone, new research<sup>1<\/sup>&nbsp;has shown that financial terms really do make people anxious.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ee8f305 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ee8f305\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Jar-gone<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-51a36c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"51a36c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\"><p>Researchers used a variation of the Emotional Stroop Test, which measures information processing speed when naming the ink colour of different words, to compare response times for neutral words like \u2018pencil\u2019 with investment-specific terms like \u2018FTSE.\u2019<\/p><\/div><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\"><p>Nearly two-thirds of participants had slower response times and higher error rates for financial trigger words, suggesting they may be susceptible to a stress response. Additionally, 44.3% experienced an increased heart rate and 11.5% reported breathlessness.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\"><p>The terms \u2018Stockbroker\u2019, \u2018Asset Management\u2019 and \u2018Investment Risk\u2019 produced three of the slowest reaction times. Other investment-related words like \u2018Bond Fund\u2019 and \u2018Equities\u2019 also took longer than average<strong>.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0b36e7f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0b36e7f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Don\u2019t fear \u2018FTSE\u2019<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b36646f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b36646f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\"><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\"><p>Stripping back jargon can help people think more clearly about investments and pensions.
